"Creating a community around food" that is our mission for this years brand new SMUS Eats club. Let's get to meet your heads for this year!
Meet Alana Norie!

A Gr. 11 boarding student at SMUS. She grew up in Squamish, a small town in British Columbia surrounded by mountains, and Howe Sound's ocean waters. Since a young age Alana was influenced by the weekly farmers markets, endless amount of food trucks, and the adventurous people who live in her town. Eggs were the first thing she ever cooked. At age seven they were most likely stuck to the pan, and crisped to a charcoal. Alana’s eggs got better, her family was relieved. Now at sixteen she is an avid meal prepper, and her family's main chef. Constantly in the kitchen cooking everything from curries and quinoa salad to chipotle chicken burgers with roasted root vegetables. Alana has

mastered a granola recipe, and can’t get enough of kale chips. Her love of food, cooking and sharing inspired her to start the first food based club at SMUS. Her aim is to get members of the SMUS community excited about working with food, and innovative about the ways they do it.
Meet Amelia Nugent!

She is a Grade 12 boarding student originally from San Francisco, CA who is now living in Washington State. She knew from the moment she set eyes on her easy bake oven that she was going to love all things food. As she grew up she moved on from her beloved easy bake to the real deal oven and a stand mixer. She started with cookies and cupcakes like many 10-year-olds but loved it so much that she went deeper and deeper into the world of baking. She quickly moved from simple cupcakes to chocolate mousse and

meringue cookies. And then even further with French desserts like macaron and iles flottant. She has also started to learn to make bread in the form of focaccia, pita, and her favorite, bagels. Recently she has ventured more into the realm of cooking by dabbling in fresh pasta, curry, and a number of other dishes. She loves to try as many new recipes as possible and even if they fail the first time she will try again and again to make them work. She wants SMUS EATS to be a community that gives everyone the confidence to cook and bake on their own and shows people that cooking doesn’t have to be intimidating.
Looking forward to welcoming all our new members at our first meeting!
See you then,
Alana and Amelia :)
